Schematic illustration of the design strategies of O2 MBs and NBs for biomedical applications. O2 MBs and NBs can suppress the expression of HIF-1α expression. Stable O2 MBs and NBs are fabricated by encapsulating O2 with shells (proteins, lipids or polymers) and functional substrate (photosensitizer, drug or gene). O2 MBs and NBs can increase O2 supply, improve O2 delivery, overcome hypoxic conditions and enhance therapeutic efficacy.
